The Spirit We Walk With
In the Mazatec tradition, they are called the Niños Santos — the Holy Children.
They are not approached as substances, but as living presences:
teachers, allies, and carriers of a deeper intelligence.
They do not offer escape. They invite us to remember.
This work is carried out with deep respect for the Mazatec lineage
and the ways these sacred ones have been held and honoured across generations.

Where I met them
My relationship with the Niños Santos was formed in Mexico,
through direct experience and learning alongside Mazatec people,
on their land and within their tradition, where this path has been walked for thousands of years.
I went as a student and a guest, and I was changed by what I met there.
What I encountered was not something I could leave behind in Mexico.
The spirit I met became woven into my voice —
and it is through the voice that this presence now moves even deeper in my work.

How This Lives in My Work Today
In the Netherlands, my work is voice work — Shamanic Voice Alchemy.
The voice is the medicine: it is my voice, presence, and live guidance that carry the journey.
Where a natural support is present in my ceremonies here, it is the sacred truffle (sclerotia) —
the same fungal spirit that is honoured here in the Netherlands.
The spirit is one.
The form shifts with the place —
the mushroom in its Mazatec home, the truffle here.
What remains constant is the reverence and the voice through which she sings.

What Are Niños Santos?
Niños Santos — Holy Children — is the name given by Mazatec healers to the sacred ones
they have worked with for generations.
Their ceremonial use dates back thousands of years,
with archaeological evidence of sacred veneration as far back as 500–700 BCE in Mesoamerica.
Traditionally, they are gathered in silence, under moonlight, and sung into ceremony.
María Sabina once said:
“Cure yourself with the light of the sun and the rays of the moon.
With the sound of the river and the waterfall.
With the swaying of the sea and the fluttering of birds.”

This is not about seeing visions out of curiosity. It is about meeting what is true — and living from it.
We are not the first to sit in this circle.
We are held by those who sang before us, who listened before us,
and who still walk with us when we remember to bow.
A Living Communion

This path is rooted in honour for the Mazatec tradition,
and for María Sabina, the curandera whose prayers, songs, and veladas continue to echo in how this sacred path is approached today.
My own path has been shaped through direct experience and an ongoing relationship with this lineage, carried with care and humility.

Why We Use Their True Name
We choose to call them Niños Santos to help remember them.
To bow to their spirit.
To honour the ancient ones who walked this path before us.
They are not a product you can buy.
They are not an experience to consume.
They are nature’s intelligent consciousness — alive in fungal form, and present in the voice that calls to them.
“The sacred is not somewhere else.
It is here — in this breath, this body, this earth.
And the niños remind us how to be humble towards it again.”
